The Portland Hospital has an on-site neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for premature and ill babies. Equipped with the latest technology and staffed by a specialist team of consultant neonatologists and neonatal nurses, the unit cares for premature babies born from 28 weeks onwards, those with low birth weight or those who have a medical condition that requires intensive care.
To ensure continuity of care, babies are looked after by the same team of neonatal nurses on progression to the hospital’s special care baby unit (SCBU).
The Portland can arrange for babies born within the NHS requiring neonatal services to be transferred to their care.
