An expert team

Fertility Plus is run by a team of experienced consultants supported by a broader team of medical experts.

Mr Anil Gudi

Mr Anil Gudi was the lead at Homerton Fertility Centre from 2008 to 2020, where he led the team and was instrumental, along with Mr Shah, in developing the centre into one of London’s largest fertility centres, with an international reputation for teaching and training.

Now exclusively in private practice, Mr Gudi specialises in assisted conception techniques, fertility preservation, endometriosis and all aspects of fertility treatment, including the novel concept of chasing the Antral follicle for poor responders. He has completed extensive research on polycystic ovarian syndrome, both in the UK and in the Asian population in India.

In recent years, Mr Gudi has expertise in treatment of women with multiple failed cycles, genetic screening of embryos and pregnancies by means of egg freezing. He has also played a key role in introducing new stimulation protocols and in creating patient-specific treatment protocols.

Mr Amit Shah

Mr Amit Shah was Clinical Lead at the Homerton Fertility Centre, where he established one of the UK’s most successful IVF clinics, providing excellent patient care alongside an exemplary junior doctor training programme. Now, after 25 years’ commitment to the NHS, he works exclusively in private practice while remaining involved with research and development in his field of expertise. He became of Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2016.

Mr Shah’s specialist interests include egg donor IVF, surrogacy, sperm donation treatments, fertility treatments and fertility preserving surgeries, including the treatment of endometriosis, and assisted conception and egg freezing. He has expertise  in egg freezing and in genetic screening of embryos, as well as using the latest technology to identify complex causes for the failure of fertility treatments, thus improving success rates.

Dr Thakre offers consultations in English and Hindi, making quality fertility care accessible to a diverse patient community.

Success rates and embryo freezing

Fertility Plus has achieved exceptionally high pregnancy rates by using frozen embryo transfer, with or without PGS.

Contrary to old beliefs, the survival rate for frozen embryos after vitrification is over 90% and pregnancy success rates are also 20% higher depending on patient age and circumstances. There is no evidence that using frozen embryos is more unsafe than conventional fresh embryo transfer.

It is thought that this approach works well because the uterus is more likely to accept embryos when the oestrogen levels and progesterone levels are not high and there is no surgery and anaesthetics for the egg collection procedure. The fact that it is physically and mentally a much calmer situation for the patient may also play a role.
