Consultant Dermatologist & Dermatological Surgeon
Dr Conal Perrett qualified in medicine at the University of Bristol, going on to postgraduate studies in Oxford and London, and becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2001. His specialist dermatology training was undertaken at some of the UK’s leading hospitals, including The Royal Free Hospital and Barts, and he completed a dermatological and Mohs surgery fellowship at the University Hospital of Wales’ Welsh Institute of Dermatology. In 2014 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
With many years’ experience at the top of his field, Dr Perrett plays a major role in providing skin cancer and dermatology services within the NHS in London. He has led the skin cancer service at UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, where he has established a Mohs micrographic surgery programme and a photodynamic therapy (PDT) service, and he is the lead for Mohs surgery on the London Cancer Skin Pathway Board. He also runs a specialist clinic at Harefield and Royal Brompton NHS Trust, open to both UK and overseas patients, designed to manage skin conditions in those who have undergone heart and lung transplants – a patient group with a greatly increased risk of skin cancer compared to the general population.
In addition, he has a special interest in skin problems in other groups of immunosuppressed individuals including those with haemato-oncological disorders such as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Again, such individuals have a much higher risk of skin cancer which can also be more aggressive.
Dr Perrett is also on the board of the British Association for Skin Care in Immunosuppressed Individuals (BSSCI).
Dr Perrett also has a special interest in Cutaneous Sarcoma and is a member of the London Sarcoma Service at University College Hospital London, one of the largest Sarcoma Services in Europe.
Founded by Dr Perrett, The Devonshire Clinic offers private dermatology services from a handpicked team of experts. Located within The Harley Street Diagnostic Centre, the Clinic has access to the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technology, providing first-class assessment and treatment for the whole range of skin disorders. It also provides the most up-to-date cosmetic and aesthetic skin procedures to rejuvenate the skin and remove blemishes.
Dr Perrett has a special clinical interest in skin cancer and is a recognised expert in Mohs micrographic surgery, the ‘gold standard’ treatment for certain types of skin cancer that allows the surgeon to remove all the cancer cells without removing excess healthy tissue. He is also highly experienced in delivering photodynamic therapy (PDT) for thin skin cancers or pre-cancerous skin conditions.
Dr Perrett was awarded a PhD by the University of London for his research into skin cancer and he was the recipient of a prestigious Cancer Research UK (CR-UK) Clinical Research Fellowship, carrying out work at the London Research Institute, the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Sciences and the St John’s Institute of Dermatology.
He remains committed to furthering the knowledge and understanding of dermatology, and in particular skin cancer, conducting research alongside his clinical role. As an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College and University College London (UCL), he also plays an active teaching role, personally supervises PhD students and is also a PhD examiner for the University of London.
Dr Perrett has published papers in leading journals including Science and has presented his work at national and international meetings.
