Hospitals and clinics providing Oesophagus and stomach examination by endoscope (gastroscopy)

A gastroscopy is a medical procedure used to visualise the inside of the stomach with an endoscope. This is also know as an upper gastroscopy. It is carried out under local anaesthetic with sedation. The endoscope is inserted by a gastroenterologist through the mouth of the patient. It is then guided down the oesophagus to the stomach. Complications associated with this procedure are rare, although an X-ray can occasionally be used as an alternative. Indications for a gastroscopy are dysphagia, abdominal pain, removal of polyps and the repair of bleeding ulcers.
