Epiphora, or watery eyes, occurs when there is uncontrollable production of tears by the tear glands. Several conditions could bring about epiphora: conjunctivitis, eye injuries, eye irritation and conditions of the eyelid. Watery eyes do not need treatment but, in severe cases, removing the source of irritation is important to reduce tear formation. Eye washes may remove foreign object trapped in the eye.
