Founding member of the Royal London Orthopaedic and Trauma Society, Mr Ali Noorani is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist problems including arthritis, sports injuries, rotator cuff and frozen shoulder, and rehabilitation.


Ali Noorani undertook his medical training at the Imperial College School of Medicine (London), qualifying in the year 2000. He followed this with Orthopaedic and Trauma training on the prestigious Royal London Hospital rotation.


Further Specialist Fellowship training in Shoulder, Elbow and Upper Limb Surgery was at the renowned Upper Limb fellowship programmes at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and The Royal Liverpool Hospital.


Mr Noorani was awarded the prestigious Annual British Shoulder and Elbow Society Fellowship in 2010, followed by the British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in 2011. He studied Upper Limb and Trauma Surgery in America at Harvard University, the Mayo Clinic, Columbia University, and the Rothman Institute.

    Clinical interests

  • Mr Noorani's special interests include:

    • Shoulder instability including traumatic, atraumatic and muscle patterning instability (multidirectional instability)
    • Shoulder and elbow sports injuries
    • Rotator cuff and frozen shoulder
    • Arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow and wrist
    • Hand and wrist surgery
    • Trauma, with a special interest in upper limb trauma such as clavicle/ACJ/scapula/proximal humerus, elbow, hand and wrist injuries
    • Management of early onset arthritis
    • Rehabilitation of the shoulder

    Research interests

  • As a regular contributor to the academic literature, Mr Noorani is well-published in peer-reviewed journals and is on the review board for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has carried out research in a number of areas including shoulder and elbow instability and is currently the principle investigator on multicentre randomised controlled trials investigating platelet rich plasma (PRP) in shoulder arthroscopy, frozen shoulder and stimulation for training.

    His other research interests include Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS), reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow, upper limb joint preservation surgery, scapula fractures and innovation in healthcare.
