Mr André R Simon is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Harley Street Clinic and the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital in London who specialises in complex heart surgery, heart bypass surgery, aortic and mitral valve surgery and repair, heart and lung transplantation and artificial hearts or ventricular assist devices.


Mr André Simon is an internationally recognised cardiac surgeon with a special interest in heart and lung transplantation and the implantation of ventricular assist devices.  He undertook medical training in Germany and the United States, attaining his Doctorate at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and a Higher Doctorate from the Hannover Medical School.  From 2007-2010 Mr Simon was Director of the Hannover Thoracic Transplant Program, and was Director of the European Academy for Organ Transplantation (EUCAT) based in Hannover from 2009 to 2010. Mr Simon has been Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Director of Heart and Lung Transplantation and Ventricular Assist Devices at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust since 2010.  He also holds an honorary senior lectureship at Imperial College, London.

  • Mr Simon’s scientific interests include transplantation immunology, cardiac imaging and ventricular assist devices and he has raised more than £2m in funding.

    He has written over 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews and editorials, and has contributed chapters to a variety of reference volumes.
